Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australian ODI Team Versus Team India
The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-game ODI series facing India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a surprise selection.
Recent Form Result in Omission
Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international side following scoring just one run in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a top score of 47 in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.
Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.
Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes
There have been indications of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.
Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia seek a answer to their opening batting issues.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.
ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.
Squad Selection Strategy and Schedule
Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.
“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
