Courageous Rail Employee Receives Life-Threatening Injuries During Mass Knife Attack on Express Service

A valiant train employee who stepped in to save passengers during a mass knife attack on a express train has sustained life-threatening wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

CCTV footage allegedly depicts the employee trying to stop the assailant as the train traveled between Peterborough and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses recounted a frightening 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with injured victims running through carriages.

The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in detention for interrogation. Police announced a significant event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Reaction and Aftermath

The incident on the weekend led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five individuals have now been discharged from medical care.

A witness filmed the individual brandishing a large knife and being subdued with a stun device as he confronted police on the station. He was reportedly heard shouting, "End my life, kill me."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the brave member of train personnel whose family are being supported by specialist officers,” stated a high-ranking police officer.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Measures

Train associations were swift to commend employees and call for more action. One labor leader said he would be “requesting immediate meetings with government, rail employers and police to ensure that we have the best available assistance, tools and effective protocols in operation”.

Another union leader urged the train operator and authorities “to move quickly to examine safety, to help the affected workers, and to make sure that no incident like this occurs again”.

Operator Commended for Quick Action

The train driver who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “deeply affected” but “good”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“The driver did not stop the service in the middle of two stations where it’s clearly difficult for the first responders to reach, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much waiting,” stated a union representative.

Additional Details

Authorities stated they received the first emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One observer described at first thinking if the event was a Halloween prank, but quickly realized from people's faces that it was serious.

Authorities have stated there is nothing to suggest the incident was a terrorist attack and have requested the community to provide with any additional information.

Train services on the impacted route are expected to experience disruption until the following day, with travelers advised to postpone their journeys where possible.
